April 2018 the United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr Serpa Soares, opened the Intergovernmental Conference on International Legal Advice Jan MacLean joined Eurojust as a new national member for Germany, succeeding former Agency Vice-President Klaus Meyer-Cabri. Mr. MacLean has many years of experience and expertise in the field of international judicial cooperation, including involvement in the implementation and revision of Eurojust`s legal basis. In addition, he worked as a division head and advisor at the Federal Ministry of Justice. The Legal Counsel addressed the tenth meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group of the Whole on the regular process for global reporting and assessment of the state of the marine environment, including socio-economic aspects. Prior to assuming this position, Mr. MacLean worked as an advisor to the German Ministries of Justice and Interior, where he focused on international legal cooperation in criminal matters and the fight against Islamic terrorism and concentrated extremism.
